A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is technically far more complex than a pure combustion vehicle or a pure electric vehicle. It combines two complete drivetrains in a confined space. This complexity means that conventional visual inspections when buying used are not sufficient. While the combustion engine shows classic wear characteristics, the condition of the high-voltage battery remains invisible to the naked eye. Since the battery in a PHEV is often smaller than in a pure electric vehicle, it is fully charged and discharged more frequently. This high cycle load can accelerate aging.

The on-site process is highly standardized to minimize human error. As soon as the appraiser arrives at the vehicle, digital documentation begins. First, the vehicle is identified via the vehicle identification number (VIN). Then the OBD2 scanner is connected to read in-depth system data. In parallel, the appraiser performs a paint thickness measurement on all relevant body parts. This reveals concealed accident damage or repainting that the seller may not have mentioned.

Additionally, the appraiser checks the tread depth and general condition of the tires as well as the braking system. Once the measurements are complete, the data is transmitted encrypted to our headquarters. There, final review and signature by a senior inspector take place.
